Knowing which bus is next is a different task from figuring out how to reach somewhere new. Citymapper is worth considering for that second task. I make BusSing, which also has combined directions, but I would look closely at the walking and transfer details before choosing a planner for an unfamiliar journey.

Written by the developer of BusSing. Sources and the basis for each comparison are named in the article. Features and prices can change. We have not measured arrival accuracy against the other app.

Start with the journey you need to plan

Citymapper: Your Transport App lists Singapore among its covered cities. Its Singapore App Store description advertises route choices, live departures, bus locations, turn-by-turn guidance, saved places and alighting alerts. It is a multi-city planner, with the exact modes and tools depending on local coverage.

BusSing also has point-to-point directions combining walking, buses and MRT. Those directions use OneMap through our backend and need a connection to fetch a route. A useful comparison is a journey you know: inspect the suggested boarding stop, walk and transfer in each app.

This article compares the App Store listing and developer sources checked on 27 October 2026. It does not report a hands-on route test or establish which app consistently offers the fastest journey.

Step-free routing is a reason to look beyond the arrival screen

Citymapper has published a Singapore guide describing step-free journeys, station entrances and exits with lifts or ramps, and step-free bus boarding and alighting stops. Those details can matter far more than a small difference in a journey-duration estimate.

BusSing does not advertise a dedicated step-free routing mode in the product information used for this comparison. I would not promise one on the strength of its general directions feature. If step-free access matters for your trip, check the current Citymapper route and the access information for the stops and stations involved.

The guide explains a developer-described feature; it does not establish that every Singapore journey has a suitable step-free option or that a lift will be available when you arrive.

For a familiar commute, try the quick arrival tools

If you already know the route, BusSing can put the next bus on your Home Screen, Lock Screen or Apple Watch. Start a Live Activity for the service you are waiting for, and compatible iPhones can show it in Dynamic Island. Standard widgets are free; unlimited Live Activities and location-aware widgets are Express features. Free Live Activities have a limit.

Citymapper also lists an Apple Watch app, live departures and alighting prompts. BusSing does not have those ideas to itself. The question for a familiar journey is whether the arrival view you use is convenient enough that you stop hunting through screens.

A BusSing widget can show older information between iOS-managed updates. Live bus arrivals need internet, and their estimates can change. A more convenient place to read a countdown does not guarantee its accuracy.

Keep offline routes separate from live disruption information

BusSing offline MRT planning works without a connection, but it has no live disruption information. BusSing combined walking, bus and MRT directions are a separate online feature.

Citymapper advertises offline network maps in its global App Store description, alongside live journey and disruption information. That global description does not establish which Singapore maps are available offline. Check the Singapore downloads and route tools in the app before depending on them without a connection.

What offline MRT planning does in BusSing

Ads, purchases and supported phones

Citymapper is listed as free to download, with advertising and in-app purchases. Its Singapore listing shows CLUB and CLUB+ products, but does not state billing periods beside the displayed prices. Check the purchase screen for the benefits and renewal terms you would be buying.

BusSing has no ads. Its bus arrivals, standard widgets, alight reminders and offline MRT planning are available without Express. Both apps describe data processing in their policies. BusSing does not sell personal data or use third-party advertising; that does not mean it processes no information.

Citymapper has Android and lists iOS 17 and watchOS 10 as minimums for its iPhone and Watch apps. BusSing has no Android version and requires iOS 18 or watchOS 11 on those devices. Citymapper is also the broader multi-city option in this pair.

You can keep different apps for different jobs

I would try Citymapper for an unfamiliar trip, its advertised step-by-step guidance or the Singapore step-free information it describes. Try BusSing for an ad-free daily bus check, a widget or offline MRT routing on a supported Apple device. If both are useful on different journeys, keeping both is a reasonable choice.
